Plot Summary

In 2003, Lily, who had immigrated to the United States for five years, returned to Xindian from Los Angeles with her two daughters, Fangyi and Fang'an, due to breast cancer. She reunited with her estranged husband Zong Hui. Fangyi fell behind in class due to her Chinese language barrier and was jokingly referred to as the "American girl" by her classmates. She felt powerless in the face of her mother's illness, and what she longed for most was to return to the United States.
