Plot Summary

The prototype of the male protagonist in the film is Maziar Bahari, an Iranian Canadian journalist. In 2009, Bahari served as a correspondent for Newsweek in Iran, reporting on the Iranian presidential election that year. On June 13th, after the Election Commission announced Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's victory, supporters of his rival took to the streets and Bahari captured the protest known as the "Iranian Green Revolution". On June 21st, he was taken away from his home in Tehran and released after 118 days of imprisonment. Afterwards, Bahari wrote his own experience into a memoir titled 'Then They Came for Me', which was published in 2011. In the book, he describes being tortured and interrogated, with the other party seeing him as a spy infiltrating Iran. Because his eyes were blindfolded, he could not see the face of the interrogator clearly, and only smelled the rose perfume on his body.
