Plot Summary

This film is adapted from the thriller novel by Patricia Haysmith. In 1962, a charming American couple, Mr. Chester MacFarland (Vigo Mortensen) and his young and alluring wife Colette (Kirsten Dunst), came to Athens during their European travels. While sightseeing at the Acropolis in Athens, they met Rydal (Oscar Isaac), a Greek speaking American tour guide who lured female tourists. Moved by Colette's beauty, Chester's wealth, and upbringing, Rydal happily accepted the dinner invitation. However, the MacFarlands were not as friendly as they seemed, as Chester's friendly exterior concealed dark secrets. When Rydal arrived at the couple's exclusive hotel, Chester asked him to help move a seemingly unconscious person who he claimed had attacked him. Rydal agreed, but the situation escalated to a more dangerous place, and he found himself implicated and unable to escape. He became increasingly infatuated with the fragile and sensitive Colotte, which led to Chester's jealousy and paranoia, resulting in a tense and dangerous battle of wits between the two men. Their escape journey from Greece to Türkiye ended dramatically in the back alleys of Istanbul's Grand Bazaar. (Translated by Colonel)
