Description
Plot Summary
Song Lian (Gong Li), who had only been in college for half a year, was forced by her greedy mother to marry into the Chen family's courtyard and became the fourth wife of the master. There is an old rule in the Chen family that in the evening, the aunties must stand in front of their own houses and wait for the red lanterns brought by the servants, which symbolize being "blessed" by the master. At first, due to her status as a "newcomer", Song Lian received the most favor from the master, but she was also squeezed by the other three aunties, especially the second aunt (Cao Cuifen) who was smiling and hiding a knife. Due to her lack of experience in the world and rebellious nature, Song Lian was eager to fight for her breath, making Ji a popular figure around the master. She did not want Ji to be seen through and ultimately fell to the hands of Second Aunt, leading to a tragedy. Although the experience of Third Aunt Tai (He Saifei) is very different from that of Song Lian, she still cannot escape fate by following the same path.
