Description

Plot Summary

Sister Helen (played by Susan Sarandon) is entrusted by death row inmate Matthew Ponsley (played by Sean Penn) to visit him in prison. Matthew denies killing a young couple and has been sentenced to death, appealing. Helen visited all the way and delved into the village to investigate the truth. On the one hand, it was the innocent couple who had been brutally killed, and on the other hand, it was the spiritual support of the criminal who was about to be executed. Helen tried every means to help Matthew, but when she faced the pain of the victim's parents and public anger, Helen's heart also fell into a tangled moral judgment. Helen ultimately influenced Matthew. Before the execution, Matthew admitted his guilt and prayed for forgiveness from the victim's family, walking through the last 168 hours of his life with peace of mind and dignity. This film is adapted from the true story of the nun Helen Prykin, and Susan Sarandon won the Best Actress award at the 68th Academy Awards for her performance in this film.
