Plot Summary

Rich man Edward Cole (played by Jack Nicholson) has benefited greatly from the privatization and renovation of public hospitals in recent years. His practice of "one room, two beds" in the ward to save costs has been criticized, but Cole, who has a strong personality, does not take it seriously. Unexpectedly, he is soon diagnosed with cancer. Under public pressure, Cole, who intended to stay in a single room, has to share a room with another patient - Old Carter (played by Morgan Freeman). Car repair technician Mr. Carter was knowledgeable and trained his three children to become successful, but at the cost of sacrificing his dream of becoming a history professor when he was young. Cole, who had been married multiple times but was now alone, gradually became interested in Carter, and the two elderly people formed a friendship in the hospital room. Cole accidentally discovered Carter's "wish list" and decided to use his power to make those crazy ideas on paper come true one by one, in order to discover the true meaning of life
