Plot Summary

This film is a remake of the 1984 Hollywood movie of the same name. 12-year-old Derek Parker (Jaden Smith) moved with his mother (Taraji P. Henson) from Detroit to Beijing, China, and met a Chinese girl named Meiying (Han Wenwen) who plays the violin at the same school. The relationship between Derry and Meiying has caused dissatisfaction among a small group led by Cheng (played by Wang Zhenwei) in the school.
