Description
Plot Summary
After the failure to promote political reform, the reformist banner bearer Kang Youwei was ordered by Empress Dowager Cixi to be pursued and fled abroad. Finally, he bought an outer island in Stockholm, Sweden to temporarily reside. During his exile, he still cared about his country and hoped to return to his homeland one day and establish his Chinese Great Harmony Society. A century later, today director Chen Yaocheng ("Erotic Map"), who is based in the United States, has made an alternative biographical film that combines documentary and plot based on this rarely noticed historical legacy of the late Qing Dynasty. The versatile old man Liao Qizhi plays this controversial figure with unfulfilled ambitions, while the Golden Horse winner Chen Lingzhi plays his daughter Tongbi in "Love in a Floating World". Perhaps it's fate, but 1960s actress Jiang Qing, who has also moved to a small island in Sweden, made a special comeback for this film and served as the narrator.
