Description

Plot Summary

Hideji Kurashima (played by Ken Takakura), who serves as a technical guidance officer at Toyama Prison, recently lost his wife. His wife Yoko (played by Yuko Tanaka)'s appearance, smile, and graceful singing voice constantly linger in his heart, leaving him unforgettable. On that day, he received a painting letter sent by Yoko before her death, instructing her husband to scatter his ashes in the sea of thin incense in his hometown of Nagasaki. Holding various doubts in his heart, Kurashima drove on a journey. Along the way, he got to know a Chinese teacher (Takeshi Kitano) who claimed to have lost his wife recently, a cheerful station bento salesman, Tamiyama (Takeshi Cao), and his reticent subordinate, Nanhara (Hiroshi Sato), a mother and daughter of Boka's local restaurant (Miko Yu&Yosuo Ayase), an old fisherman, Ooro Ohura (Hideki Ohi), and his grandson (Hideki Yamaguchi). With every bit of time spent with his wife, Kuroshima finally arrived at the end of the journey...
