Plot Summary
During the period from Taisho to Showa, Japan experienced turmoil, poverty, and disease in the 1920s and 1930s, coupled with a sluggish economy and the devastating Kanto earthquake, which left the people living on this island in constant fear. As the pace of war approaches, the future of young people becomes increasingly uncertain and uncertain. Horiko Jiro (voiced by Hideaki Anno), who had a strong interest in airplanes since childhood, established a friendship through time and space with his admired Italian aircraft designer Caproni (voiced by Mansai Nomura), and drew courage and inspiration from each other. He swore to design and manufacture beautiful airplanes, and when he grew up, he was admitted to a university in Tokyo to study aviation engineering. Afterwards, he went to Germany to study abroad, and with his mastery of aviation technology, Jiro became a fighter jet designer. The classic aircraft model, the seven test ship fighter jet, left behind the crystallization of his wisdom. During a test flight, his plane crashed unexpectedly, and Jiro, who was greatly affected, went to Karuizawa Sanatorium in Kitasaku gun, Nagano Prefecture. Unexpectedly, he met his lifelong love there. Her name is Cai Suizi (voiced by Miori Takimoto), and she had a chance encounter with Jiro during the Great Kanto Earthquake ten years ago. Young men and women fell in love at first sight and made a lifelong commitment to each other. However, Cai Suizi was diagnosed with tuberculosis, which was considered a terminal illness at the time, and the road ahead was dark. Unable to give up his dream of creating beautiful airplanes, Jiro once again devoted himself to the design work of the Zero fighter jet. On the other hand, Cai Suizi, who knew that her days were running out, secretly slipped out of the sanatorium and ran towards her lover Erlang. In turbulent times, limited lives, the flickering love between young men and women, like a candle in the wind
