Plot Summary

Nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 71st Academy Awards, Ali (Amir Farrokh Hashemian), a poor boy, accidentally lost his repaired shoes while helping his sister Zahra (Bahare Seddiqi). In order to avoid punishment from his father (Mohammad Amir Naji) and mother (Fereshte Sarabandi), he begged Zahra to keep it a secret for the time being, saying that they could wear his shoes to school and promised to buy her a new pair of shoes. Ali had hoped to use the money he and his father earned from working in the city to help Zahra buy a new pair of shoes, but his father's unexpected injury shattered his dream. When Ali saw that the third place prize in the city's long-distance running competition was a pair of sports shoes, he decided to participate in the competition, but he missed the registration date. After several pleas, the teacher (Dariush Mokhtari) made an exception and allowed Ali, who had outstanding strength, to participate in the competition. On the competition field, Ali kept reminding himself that he must come in third place!
