Description

Plot Summary

On the occasion of the bicentennial of American independence, the carefully prepared presidential candidates, the social celebrities interspersed among them, the country singers who took the opportunity to make a name for themselves, the fans who crazily pursued them, and the BBC reporters who watched coldly... All kinds of characters came on stage after you finished singing. At the grand party, the assassination of the female star brought the entire movie to its climax. You can say that I am not free, but I am not worried about it "- In the indifferent singing at the end of the film, the camera quickly sweeps through the noisy crowd below. Behind those dull or distorted faces are hollow souls that have been corrupted by popular culture and have lost their independent consciousness. Robert Altman, who is skilled in handling group dramas, accurately depicts the human nature of the American people under the shadow of the Vietnam War with his excellent scheduling and control skills, through the "chattering" dialogue and "chaotic and disorderly" scenes, and profoundly reveals the spiritual crisis of American society under the universal festive atmosphere. This film has been nominated for Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Director, making it a representative masterpiece of American cinema in the 1970s.
