Plot Summary

This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by American bestselling author Dan Brown. Victoria Vettel (Ayelet Zurer), a scientist at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), and her father collected antimatter during a high-speed particle collider experiment. However, they discovered that her father had been killed and had been branded with the "Illuminati" symbol on his chest. The highly explosive antimatter was stolen and appeared in the Vatican City, where a new pope was being elected, posing a threat to the safety of the Catholic Church and the entire Rome. At the same time, the cardinals of the four main candidates for the Pope mysteriously disappeared. At the behest of the Papal Chamberlain (played by Ewan McGregor), Harvard semiotic experts Professor Robert Landon and Victoria were invited to the Vatican to assist the Roman police in their search operation. Landon convinces Roman detective Olivetti (played by Pierfrancesco Favino) to engage in a time war with the Illuminati in Rome's famous churches, following the prompts of "earth, air, fire, and water"
