Description

Plot Summary

The film is adapted from the true experience of the famous Norwegian explorer Saul Haldane, telling the legendary adventure story of him and five friends drifting on a raft across the Pacific Ocean in 1947. The most invested film in Norway so far (18.5 million US dollars), adapted from real events, tells the story of six explorers crossing the Pacific Ocean on a rudimentary raft. The male star of 'Water of Troubles', Pal Sver Waheem Hagen, plays the famous Norwegian explorer Saul Heildal. In 1947, Saul Haldane and five friends set off from Peru in South America and traveled on a raft for 101 days and 4900 miles to reach the Polynesian Islands in the South Pacific, creating a miracle in the history of human navigation. He wanted to prove through this that the ancient Peruvians of 1400 years ago settled in Polynesia by crossing the Pacific Ocean on these rudimentary rafts. Haier Dahl wrote this arduous resume into a book, which has been translated into more than 60 languages around the world. The documentary he made also won the Academy Award for Best Documentary in 1952, and he is also known as the "most famous Norwegian in the world". However, at the beginning of the story, his ideas were ridiculed by everyone. The behind the scenes production of "The Lonely Raft" is co produced by Norway, the United Kingdom, and Denmark. The British producer is Jeremy Thomas, who has worked with Bertolucci on "Stealing Fragrance" and "The Last Emperor". He is also the producer of recent international productions such as "Pina" by Wenders and "Dangerous Methods" by Conan Berg. The film "The Lonely Raft" will be directed by Joachim Rohnni and Espen Sandberg, who successfully released the box office war romance film "Max Manus" in Norway in 2008 and were the country's representatives for the Academy Award for Foreign Language Films that year. What is the director's self description of the movie about? The life of legendary explorer Haildar and his true story of crossing the Pacific Ocean on a makeshift raft in 1947. In other words, this is a story about never giving up on pursuing dreams. What is the inspiration for 'Lonely Raft Across the Ocean'? We grew up in a small town in southern Norway called Sandefjord. Apart from movies, we have never pursued anything else and have never had any other way of life. But when we were children, the story of 'The Lonely Raft Across the Ocean' inspired us to pursue our dreams, no matter how unattainable, and never give up. We hope this movie can also inspire people to take risks. Conquer Mount Matterhorn, sail to Cuba, experience Route 66, whatever it is, pursue your dreams. The biggest difficulty encountered during the preparation process? There were many difficulties, and at first it was a mess. This is the most complex movie shooting process we have ever experienced, fortunately, there are many amazing people around us. Who was influenced during the filming process? Jaws, of course, is one of the greatest movies of all time. We constantly seek inspiration from movies from the 1980s and 1990s. In our view, those years were the golden age of cinema. Behind the scenes footage The Kon Tiki is named after the ancient name of the Inca sun god Viracocha. . The film was shot back-to-back in two versions, one in English and the other in Norwegian and Danish. . The film set the record for the highest investment in Norwegian film history (18.5 million US dollars). . The film grossed $13.34 million at the local box office in Norway, making it the highest grossing film in Norway in 2012, surpassing all Hollywood blockbusters. . The two directors of the film, Joaqu í m Rodney and Espen Sandberg, have been friends since childhood. The Lonely Raft Across the Ocean "is their third directed work. Their previous film, "Max Manus," set a record for the highest box office performance of a domestic film in Norway in the past decade.
