Description
Plot Summary
In Zhang Yimou's works, Chen Daoming and Gong Li portray a timeless love story. In the early 1970s, Lu Yanshi (played by Chen Daoming), a labor camp prisoner who had been isolated from his family for many years, escaped home during a farm relocation. The daughter Dandan (played by Zhang Huiwen), who dreams of ballet, brings immense pressure as she prevents her mother Feng Wanyu (played by Gong Li) from meeting her father. Therefore, the couple are close but far apart. After the end of the Cultural Revolution, Lu Yanshi was finally rehabilitated and returned home, but he found that his daughter had already given up her dream of ballet and became a factory worker, while his beloved wife no longer knew him due to illness. Deep emotions and life changes forced Lu Yanshi to make the most absurd yet reasonable life choice for him... This film is director Zhang Yimou's first work after joining LeEco Pictures, praised by screenwriter Zou Jingzhi as a painstaking work.
