Plot Summary

The manned spacecraft Ares 3 successfully arrived on Mars, but unexpectedly a destructive storm hit the astronauts, forcing Ares 3 to interrupt its mission and urgently return. During the evacuation, astronaut Mark Warrens (played by Matt Damon) was hit by blown off parts from the spacecraft. Due to the slim chance of survival, his teammates had to hastily return and announce to the world the fact that he had sacrificed his life. Surprisingly, Mark survived with a very low probability. He fell into the space base stationed on Mars to heal his injuries. The next Mars mission will be in four years, and the reshipment at the base is only enough for him to sustain for 31 days. After a brief moment of despair, Mark decided to use limited food to plant crops on this empty planet, searching for a glimmer of hope. At the same time, the Earth quickly discovered the fact that Mark survived, and they tried their best to deploy a rescue plan. Can Mark, who is fighting alone, wait for the arrival of the rescue team? The film is adapted from Andy Weir's science fiction novel of the same name.
