Plot Summary

Regarded as the most important Russian director after Tarkovsky, Alexei Germani's latest work (including this film, which has only completed six works so far and three have been banned) is a science fiction film that explores human development through the perspective of God. This is an alternative science fiction film, as the narrator in the opening credits suggests, this is not Earth, but a planet similar to Earth, where civilizations have evolved to a European Middle Ages similar to Earth. The story is adapted from the novel by the Strugatsky brothers, and the science fiction idea is that if there was no Renaissance back then, what would the current European civilization be like? In this story, a group of scientific researchers from Earth are sent to that planet to guide the civilization development process of that society. They are not allowed to use violence or intervene forcefully, but can only guide. The male protagonist is like a prophet, and is only the only person with normal behavior in the entire movie. He constantly walks at the bottom of society to enlighten people, and the movie follows in his footsteps like a documentary.
