Description

Plot Summary

In the ninth year of the Genwa era (1623), the second shogun of Tokugawa, Hidetada, died suddenly in Edo Oonai. The cause of his death has not yet been determined, and the issue of the successor of the next shogun has been brought to the forefront. During his lifetime, Hidetada doted on his young son, Tadamasa (played by Hidehiko Nishigo), and the Kyoto royal family also highly regarded him. Therefore, most of the Edo ministers fully supported Tadamasa's appointment as the third shogun; On the other hand, Ch ō Ch ō's older brother, Iemitsu (played by Hiroshi Matsukata), is the legitimate heir of the third shogun. Behind him is the support of literary officials such as Nobutada Nakamatsu (played by Etsu Takahashi), and there is also a strong military backing from the shogun's swordsmanship master, Muneshige Yanagisawa (played by Jinnosuke Manya), and his samurai family. In order to make Jiaguang succeed, the Liusheng family formed an alliance, planted eyeliner at their opponents, and even resorted to violence to achieve their goals. That summer, both inside and outside Edo Castle were engulfed in power struggles and bloody storms
