Plot Summary

Shunji (played by Tomohiro Miura) was born into a wealthy and noble family. His father was extremely conservative and his upbringing was strict. Growing up in such a family, Shunji fell in love with the daughter of the guardian of the forest, Xiaoxue (played by Momoe Yamaguchi). Although they were far apart in class, their feelings for each other were as pure and sincere as snow. Upon learning of the romantic relationship between Shunji and Xiaoxue, Shunji's father was furious. What he needed was a daughter-in-law from a similar family, not a daughter from a lowly laborer. In order to break up these unfortunate mandarin ducks, Shunji's father sent Xiaoxue far away to another land, but this did not sever Shunji's love for Xiaoxue. Shunji and Xiaoxue eloped. In the days when their lovers finally got married, Xiaoxue and Shunji both understood the true meaning of happiness. However, the arrival of a conscription order once again separated the two. Night after night, Xiao Xue misses Shunji who is far away on the battlefield. Unfortunately, Xiao Xue suffers from pulmonary tuberculosis. Without the news of Shunji, she sings the ballad of the agreement between the two in sadness. Xiao Xue's life quickly ends.
