Plot Summary
The film is divided into two parts, the first part is "Crossing the Sea to Find Love", and the second part is "Under the Snow Never Stop". In April 1932, soldier Goukou of Sendai Squadron was sentenced to death for shooting and killing his superior officer in order to rescue his sister Ashun, who was sold into a brothel due to poverty. Captain Miyagi Keisuke of the squadron defended him in vain and handed over the borrowed 1000 yen to Ashun. Some naval and army officials launched the "May 15th" coup, but after its failure, it split into the Imperial Way faction and the Control faction. Due to suspected involvement in factional struggles, Miyagi was transferred to North Korea. After taking office, Miyagi witnessed the corruption of the upper echelons of the military and wanted to launch a mutiny. Miyagi once again met Ah Xun, who had become a geisha, and blamed her for willingly falling into depravity, which made Ah Xun, who was feeling depressed, have a desire to die. In order to help Ah Xun, Miyagi gave up the resistance movement. In October 1935, Miyagi was transferred to the Tokyo First Squadron and began cohabiting with Ah Xun. After visiting his mentor, Colonel Kamizaki of the Imperial Way faction, Miyagi decided to rebel and sent Ah Xun to his father's house. On the evening of February 25, 1936, soldiers from the Imperial Way launched the "February 26" coup, which resulted in the death of the imperial palace and others, leaving only Ah Xun in tears. The film depicts a young generation of Japanese military officers in turbulent times who, after witnessing corruption in the political and economic spheres, are determined to launch a coup to promote the Showa Restoration. However, they encounter a complete failure, which is mixed with the tragic love story of a young man and woman. Takakura Ken successfully portrayed a serious and honest man who is not good at expressing love through words, while Yoshinaga Kobayashi portrayed the inner world of a woman who can tolerate all misfortunes with her excellent acting skills. The film was ranked tenth among the top ten box office hits in Japan in 1980.
