Plot Summary

The children of Francesca (played by Meryl Streep) flip through their mother's old letters and uncover a touching relationship that was previously unknown to them. One day in 1965, Francesca was alone at home when the last cowboy, photojournalist Robert Kincaid (played by Clint Eastwood), parked his car at her doorstep and asked her about the location of the Madison Bridge. She took him to the bridge and after finishing the work, he gave her a bunch of wild chrysanthemums as a token of gratitude. Her heart was filled with indescribable emotions. She left a note at the bridgehead and invited him to have dinner together. He happily came and spent a wonderful night with her. The two of them spent the next two days together. But Francesca couldn't let go of her child and worldly happiness, and Robert eventually set out alone. A few years later, the two of them had a brief glance at the entrance of the supermarket. At that time, Francesca resisted the urge to rush forward, and the pouring rain became their farewell tears. In March 1982, she learned of Robert's death. On the final journey of her life, she made a will: to have her children scatter her ashes by the Manderson Bridge. During her lifetime, she devoted all her time to her family, only hoping to forever snuggle up by her lover's side after death.
