Description

Plot Summary

A horrific massacre occurred in Chicago that shocked the entire city. Bishop Rosen of a local church was killed and his body was engraved with mysterious figures. The police arrested suspect Allen (Edward Norton) who was stained with blood at the scene at that time. Martin (played by Richard Gere), as Allen's defense lawyer, competes with his ex girlfriend, prosecutor Janet. Martin doesn't care about the facts, his only purpose in defending Allen is to win the lawsuit and make himself famous in one battle. And Janet, as a representative of justice, naturally refused to give in. Janet (played by Laura Linney) investigates and learns that Bishop Rosen had sexually assaulted Allen and others before his death, and Allen's defense of suffering from "time amnesia" is also absurd, as witnesses to the murder he mentioned have never been found. Janet believes that all evidence, including the motive for the murder, is present. Martin used Allen's mental illness as an excuse to successfully exonerate him, but everything came as a surprise.
