Description
Plot Summary
Adapted from the novel of the same name by American author Arthur Gordon. The story unfolds in the first person, with a historical background that spans from 1929 to the end of World War II. The female protagonist reminisces about her life experiences of struggling and experiencing honor and disgrace since childhood. Little Lily (played by Zhang Ziyi), who has a pair of blue gray eyes, was born in a poor fishing village and sold to a well-known geisha in Kyoto. Xiao Yuri learned dance, tea art, and other skills there, gradually becoming the top geisha in the area. At the same time, she was constantly oppressed and challenged by the first red courtesan in Kyoto, Chutao (played by Gong Li). By chance, the most beautiful and famous geisha in all of Japan, Mimi Hanyu (played by Yang Ziqiong), wants to recognize Sayuri as her "younger sister", which changes Sayuri's life forever
