Plot Summary

Bob Dylan Goes Electric "at the 1965 Newport Folk Music Festival was a groundbreaking moment in rock history that seems to have been heard of by everyone, but what few people seem to know is that it was not a brief event. We only know from word-of-mouth - director Murray Lerner recorded the performances of the Newport Music Festival running for many years, and from the mirror on the other side, Dylan collected footage from three years and appeared at famous folk gatherings, allowing us to see Dylan rise for himself through folk live performances. Watching Lerner's documentary, the most striking thing about Dylan's 36 months of transformation is the young folk singer performing "Seminar" in the afternoon in 1963. Joan Baez immediately became nervous and hesitant, singing his lengthy tunes, cutting off his acoustic guitar, and inspiring the crowd to not seem to know what he was doing. In 1964, in addition to owning Newport, Dylan was well aware of his talk festival, which praised him for Bates and Johnny Cash (and his songs), and his commanding phase was clearly stronger and more confident, while his new materials (including "Mr. Ringdrum Man" and "This isn't Me, Baby") saw him distancing himself from "protest songs," starting with his name. When the audience asked for a group of encores on Dylan's night (with Outita and Dave Ronk following him), Peter Yarrow tried to make Dylan show flattery along the beam of light in the crowd, liking how he quickly became a rock star. At the 1965 Newport Music Festival, Dylan's groundbreaking "Like a Rolling Stone" began to chart singles on a large scale, and hardcore folk audiences were clearly impressed by his popularity and populist success. During Dylan's time, Fanta Electric Guitar performed the rhythm part of "Maggie's Farm" by Al Kooper, Mike Bloomfield, and Paul Butterfield Blues, with loud but tough numbers inspiring a curious and enthusiastic cheer and the same booing, while the legendary version of "Like a Rolling Stone" was followed by chaos. Despite drummer Sam's difficulty in finding the groove, the chef's loyalty was even stronger if there were any crowd divisions. After these two numbers, Dylan and his band left the stage and used yarrow (once again serving as MC) to cite technical issues (if Pete Seeger really pulled Dylan's power, there is no sign of it in the legend). Dylan returned to the stage to sing "Mr. Ringdrum's People" and "Now it's all over, light blue" without comment until late at night. Despite the audience's desire for "old" Dylan in Newport in 1965, his strength was deliberately expressed in the sound to make it clearly semi amateurish. We see that at the beginning of the movie, it is gone forever, and two suggestions have been made to more than a few people who want to see Dylan Rock. Lerner's movie tells us a certain amount of what we already know, but it gently touches on a few myths about Dylan's performance during this critical moment in his career, which is both promising and powerful; No matter how many times you have read about Dylan's Newport 1965 gunfight, seeing it as an inspiring experience, Lerner assembles it with the taste of intelligence and archival materials. This is a must see to view scenes of Dylan or folk culture from the 1960s that interest you.
