Description
Plot Summary
In 1976, 8-year-old Mary Daisy Dingell (voiced by Bethany Whitmore) was a little girl from Melbourne, Australia, who loved the animated series "Norbert", sweet condensed milk, and chocolate. Mary's mother is an alcoholic, while her father, who works in a tea packaging factory, only likes to make bird specimens on weekdays. Lonely Mary has no friends. One day, on a whim, she wrote a letter to Max Jerry Horowitz (voiced by Philip Seymour Hoffman) in New York City, asking where American children come from and attaching a cherry chocolate bar. 44 year old Marx suffers from autism and obesity, and happens to enjoy watching the "Norbert" animated series and eating chocolate. Their pen pal relationship lasted from 1976 to 1994, during which they each experienced many ups and downs in their lives, until Mary (voiced by Toni Collette) finally came to New York to visit Marx as an adult
