Description

Plot Summary

Despite suffering from a terminal illness, Marion (Vanessa Redgrave), the wife of Arthur (Terence Stamp), insists on joining the town's senior choir. This choir, organized by young music teacher Elizabeth (Gemma Arterton) in her spare time, is not only a great place for the elderly in town to pass the time, but also provides them with opportunities to make new friends. But stubborn Arthur does not support or understand Marion's singing. He only hopes that his beloved wife can rest at home recuperating. But Arthur ultimately couldn't resist Marion, and even in the last moments of his life, Marion was able to participate in the choir competition as she wished. The elderly choir in the small town passed the preliminary round of the competition, and Marion passed away peacefully after the competition. Although Elizabeth and the other elderly people wanted to help Arthur overcome his sadness, the stubborn Arthur not only kept them at a distance, but also cursed his own son James (played by Christopher Eccleston). Arthur had originally planned to permanently close himself in the grief of losing his beloved wife, but several unexpected conversations with Elizabeth helped him gradually understand the reasons for Marion's love for the choir before her death, and also began to reflect on his relationship with his son. Gradually, Arthur seemed to open up his heart. He was determined to start a new life for the deceased Marion.
