Plot Summary

Hokkaido, with its magnificent scenery, welcomes the weather beaten couple Takashi Kobayashi (played by Hiroshi Sato) and Ryoko (played by Kenako Higuchi). The couple originally operated a machinery manufacturing factory, but was forced to shut down due to poor management. Liangzi felt her husband's loss, so she asked Dushi to build a stone wall for their western-style detached house. One night, a thief entered the house and Ryoko was hit and injured. The doctor advised her to take her dilated cardiomyopathy seriously, but Ryoko concealed this fact from her husband and spent a carefree and dreamlike time with a young man named Tetsuya Sugimoto (played by Zhou Ping Nomura) and his girlfriend Sayaka (played by Hana Sugisaki) who came to help them build the stone wall. What should come will always come, half a life together, there will always be a moment of farewell... This film is adapted from the novel "The Pearls of the Stone Man" published by American author Edward Mooney, Jr. in 2002.
