Description

Plot Summary

Jodie Foster, who was 13 years old at the time, showed her genius acting skills. A little girl staged a big play and won the Saturn Award that same year. Her masterpiece received a rating of 8.3 from over 1800 people on Douban. Thirteen year old girl Lin (Jodie Foster) lives alone in a small house by the sea. Her father has passed away and her mother has run away from home. Her loving father helped her prepay three years' rent until she was able to make a living on her own. All she needed to do was keep the secret of her father's passing to protect her right to live. But this is not easy at all for a little girl. In order to avoid suspicion from idle people, she always goes her own way and learns to handle affairs of all sizes seamlessly. She, who is indifferent to the world, also faces harassment from the landlady and her son who often come to find fault. Occasionally, the police come knocking on her door, and Lin needs to fabricate a series of excuses to cover up her father's absence. An accident led Lin to meet a limping boy named Mario (played by Scott Jacoby). Lin was initially wary of him, but after various tests, they gradually began to trust each other. Lin finally told him the secret about herself and the house, and began to feel increasingly inseparable from him. However, the good times didn't last long. Mario was critically ill with pneumonia and hospitalized, and an unprecedented sense of loneliness hit Lin. At the same time, threats were also looming: the landlord's son had discovered the secret of the house and used it as a threat. How would helpless Lin? This film is adapted from Laird Koenig's 1974 novel of the same name and won the 1977 Saturn Award.
