Description

Plot Summary

At the US naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, two Marines, Dawson and Doni, are accused of killing another soldier, Santiago. Navy lawyer Daniel Kaffee (played by Tom Cruise) and assistant Sam are sent to take over this case. They investigate that San Diego had hoped to be transferred from the base and reported Dawson. Kaffee originally intended to negotiate out of court and fight for a two-year sentence. However, the two soldiers insisted on their innocence and that their actions towards Santiago were in accordance with the "Red Code" issued to them by their superiors. The so-called Red Code is a type of disciplinary code secretly conducted by soldiers with the tacit approval of military officers. Kaffee, Sam, and another female lawyer named Galloway (played by Demi Moore) form a defense team to investigate, while the base commander Colonel Jessup (played by Jack Nicholson) is a key figure in this case. He refused San Diego's transfer request, issued a "red rule" to him, and later tampered with the flight records without authorization. Although Kafi knows the truth, she suffers from insufficient evidence. In this situation, if she were to accuse Colonel Jessup, it would still cause trouble for herself. What will be the outcome of this lawsuit that concerns justice?
