Plot Summary

Young military officer Xu Wenqiang (Leslie Cheung) was ambushed by Japanese spies and fell into the sea while fleeing. When he floated to the Bund shore, he fainted from exhaustion. Ding Li (Andy Lau) passed by and tried to save him, but was instinctively forced to do so. After a fight, the two became good friends. Ding Li accidentally saved the daughter of Shanghai tycoon Feng Jingyao (Wu Xingguo), Feng Chengcheng (Ning Jing), and made a wish to marry her. However, the dream goddess of Xiang Wang had a different heart. Feng Chengcheng only regarded him as a good friend and loved his good brother Xu Wenqiang whom he met on a train during a journey. Xu Wenqiang also developed a good impression of her because of her bravery, kindness, and wit. When Xu Wenqiang met Feng Chengcheng again, his passion couldn't be controlled, and his relationship with Ding Li came to an end.
