Plot Summary

As time enters 2050, the development of modern civilization and the rapid increase in population have made the Earth unbearable, and the once beautiful planet is no longer suitable for human habitation. In order to find a new place to survive, scientists have set their sights on Mars, which has the most similar environment to Earth. In the past few decades, they have continuously launched unmanned spacecraft to Mars, attempting to use modern technology to improve the relatively harsh living environment on Mars. However, when everything began to show results, the machines on Mars suddenly malfunctioned, forcing the plan to colonize Mars to come to a halt. The condition of Earth is becoming increasingly concerning, and in order to quickly troubleshoot the issue, an expedition team consisting of top researchers such as Kate Bauman (Carrie Anne Moss) and Robbie Galer (Val Kilmer) is tasked with traveling to the Red Planet, a place where humans have never set foot before.
