Plot Summary

Nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 76th Academy Awards and Best Asian Film at the 23rd Hong Kong Film Awards, in the late Edo period of the Haisaka clan, the subordinate warrior Seibei (Hiroyuki Sanada) takes care of his dementia mother and two young daughters on his own with a meager salary after his wife's death. Due to rushing home every day after work and never attending social events, he is jokingly referred to by his colleagues as the "Seibei of Dusk". After divorcing her husband and returning to her mother's home, Pengjiang (Gongze Rihui), who had been childhood sweethearts with Qingbingwei, often went to Qingbingwei's house to take care of his mother and daughter on his behalf, attracting a lot of rumors and gossip. The Qing Bingwei showed superb swordsmanship and repelled the unreasonable entanglement of Pengjiang's ex husband.
