Plot Summary

In 1942, on Guadalcanal Island, the US 1st Marine Division occupied the Japanese airfield on the island, thus launching a strategic counterattack against Japan in the Pacific War. Three US Marine Corps soldiers, Lequi, Sledge, and Baslon, experienced the most brutal Pacific War of World War II in the Pacific. In the Pacific, the Japanese army was arrogant and launched fierce attacks against the US military, including suicide attacks. From the brutal Battle of Guadalcanal, the Battle of Gloucester, the Battle of Tropical Jungle, the Battle of Peleliu, to the Battle of Iwo Jima and the Battle of Okinawa. Lequi (played by James Badge Dale), Sledge (played by Joseph Mazzello), and Baslon (played by Jon Seda) witnessed the Japanese army's stubborn resistance until their final defeat, and also witnessed their comrades constantly sacrificing in this brutal battle. As the most expensive WWII American TV series, HBO spent $223 million on it, marking the second collaboration between Spielberg and Tom Hanks after "The Brothers".
