Plot Summary

After Muzuki committed suicide, she left behind a pain that her childhood sweetheart Naoko (played by Rinko Kikuchi) and their good friend Watanabe (played by Kenichi Matsuyama) could not heal. In order to forget the painful memories of the past, Watanabe chose to go to Tokyo to study. In the new environment, Watanabe almost forgot everything about the past until one day he met Naoko. In their shared memory, Mu Yue was an unavoidable topic, but as if they had made an appointment, no one mentioned this person. On Naoko's 20th birthday, outside the house it rained heavily, while inside the house Naoko and Watanabe stayed warm all night. Naoko moved, and she disappeared from Watanabe's life once again. Watanabe's life seemed to have returned to calm, but his heart was filled with guilt for hurting Naoko until Watanabe received his letter. Watanabe met his cheerful and enthusiastic female classmate, Riko (played by Hisako Mizuhara), and they quickly fell in love. However, in Watanabe's heart, there will always be a place for Naoko... The film is adapted from Haruki Murakami's famous novel "Norwegian Wood" and has been highly anticipated since the beginning of filming.
