Plot Summary

The sky is our boundary, "Freyd (played by Susan Clement Suzanne Cl é ment) tells those curious about her thoughts on her boyfriend Lawrence's (played by Melvil Poupaud) gender change. That was 1989, and she believed that their generation could already accept transgender people. But whether it's Fred or Lawrence, it will take nearly a decade to discover that they are truly at a loss. The movie tells the story of a woman's cross century love affair with her transgender boyfriend through flashback and reverse narration. For Lawrence, gender change is a prerequisite for survival, the first breath of oxygen that allowed him to hold his breath underwater for 30 years. However, Lawrence only decided his own gender, he never thought about his transgender life, and he never thought about using ten years to verify his relationship with his most important friend/lover in life - Fred. Double Lawrence "is the third feature film by young Canadian director Xavier Dolan, and also Dolan's most ambitious and epic work since his career. Compared to its predecessor, this film no longer carries as strong an autobiographical tone. However, Dolan cleverly extracts the commonalities of human emotions from the unique peripheral characters - the core behind passionate love, disputes, wavering, deterioration, and reconstruction, thus returning the theme to her most adept "Dolan aesthetics": faith and pursuit of "impossible love". Double Lawrence "was nominated for the" One Focus "category at the 65th Cannes Film Festival and won the Best Actress award and the Annual Queer Palm Award.
