Plot Summary

Elmyr de Hory, a Hungarian forgery painter who was tired of his fugitive life, returned to Ibiza, Spain in 1969 and became a celebrity on the island, where he met American writer Clifford Irving. Director Orson Welles introduced Emile Horry while interspersing the sensational case of Clifford Irwin falsifying the autobiography of American aviation tycoon Howard Hughes, and then fabricated a strange story between his girlfriend Oja Kodar and Picasso. In the interweaving of truth and falsehood, Oson Wells raised the question of "what art is" and the ownership of works. This film is the last complete film by American director Orson Welles, with most of the footage taken from a BBC documentary about the Hungarian counterfeit painter Emil de Hory, written by Alvin Clifford and directed by French director Francois Reichenbach.
